Today, the Public Interest Technology Group (PITG) is officially launching its Internet governance travel fund. The fund enables underrepresented voices to participate in, and promote, public interest technology work in key Internet governance and standards bodies.

Since 2019, PITG has been working with different organizations and funders to sponsor civil society and public interest technologists’ attendance at the Internet Engineering Task Force and other technical fora, such as World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and its Technical Plenary and Advisory Committee (TPAC), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), among others.

This new travel fund will supports individuals from under-represented groups working in public interest technologies, to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive participation, as well as bridging the knowledge gap between technical Internet governance communities, other Standards Development Organizations (SDOs), and members of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

Working on a rolling basis, the PITG Travel Fund supports individuals for in-person participation in Internet Governance fora, based on the particular characteristics and requirements of the fora.

We would like to thank the Ford Foundation for their generous contributions, ARTICLE19 and Derechos Digitales for their support in managing the fund, as well as the various members of PITG who made this fund a reality.
